Maureilhan is a working French village with the local wine cooperative being the main 'industry'. The local vigneron lives just a few doors away and his 'supervisor' is the locateur for our pool. The village comes to life for a short period in the morning as people are summoned by the church bells and then it goes back to sleep for much of the rest of the day.
The trip to the bakers, often twice a day, is a must for the locals and most like to be greeted with a 'Bonjour' if you see them. Apart from the two cafe/bars the whole of the village 'shuts down' between 1230 and 1400 or so, in common with most of the rest of the locality. Shops in Beziers, with the exception of the Geant Casino, also close for that 2 hour period but then open until 1900.
The pace of life is much slower and it won't take you long to adapt.
Wine, is of course, an essential part of life and, if you speak French, a knowledge of wine will gain you a lot of friends!
